Recipe Exchange Group

This month we're starting a recipe exchange group! This group is super easy to participate in and will benefit everyone! Here is what you need to know/do:

*Every week there will be recipes exchanged via email (and hard copies on Sundays for those who don't have internet), just follow the directions in the email.

*Every month there will be a theme (e.g. international cuisine, fast/easy meals, desserts, crockpot, etc).

*At the end of every month a recipe will be chosen and we'll get together to make it in the church kitchen. We'll all help eat it, of course ;)

*March and April's theme will be combined and we'll make the recipe at the end of April since there are a lot of activities going on in March :)

Hello dear sisters! Just a reminder that this Saturday is the food drive. Some handsome volunteers from the ward (aka Matt Johnson) are coming around to pick up non-perishable food items this Saturday. They will be stopping by at noon, so please have your food ready, sitting pretty on your porch. Here are a few ideas:

Canned Meats
Canned Soup
Etc.

They have asked that we provide items that will provide lasting fullness of the belly, so please remember that as you select. All donations will help, even 1 can. Thank you for your help!!! It will be much appreciated.

YW Service Auction in March-Earn Points NOW!

Tues, March 24th at 6:30

Alright, we want to encourage every one of the Relief Society sisters to donate some type of "service" to the auction. It can be ANYTHING!!! Some examples are: babysitting, home-made goodies (like fudge or caramel popcorn or to-die-for cinnamon rolls), home-made quilt, hair cut (hint, hint Kylene hehehe), set of homemade cards, canned peaches, etc, etc. Anything that you might think someone else would benefit from or enjoy. Also, you are allowed (and encouraged) to donate more than one thing if you wish. Donating will earn you BIG points the night of the auction!! And, if you donate 3 things, then your points will be that much more, etc, etc, etc... Then, through out the months of Jan, Feb, March the sisters get to earn points that they will use to bid on the donated items that night. Some things that they can earn points by doing are things like; having family home evening, doing service anonymously, doing your VISITING TEACHING, writing a missionary, going to the temple, etc, etc. WE have some preliminary lists that we will be bringing into RS by the end of January so that the sisters know what kind of things we are looking for. We will also have a sign-up sheet for donations by the end of January and we will make the effort to remind the sisters that volunteer. However, even bringing something that night counts. Then, that night we will set up everything that's for "auction" and have some tally sheets for the sisters to tally all the points that they have earned the past 3 months. Then we will have an auction and the girls will run it. Then, we will have some fun prizes for things such as "got the most bids" "got the highest bid", fun things like that.
Also, we were wondering if between the two Relief Societies we could have some "treaters" brought for before the auction starts. Maybe just some finger foods and juice. Not a dinner, but something to keep us entertained and busy before the fun begins :)

Just to clear up any confusion, our lesson schedule for the month is different than the one on the right because we had Stake Conference. This Sunday, our lesson is Joseph Smith #24, Leading in the Lord's Way, and the 4th Sunday will be #25, Truths from the Savior's Parables in Matthew 13.

I need you to come be my patient! This semester in dental hygiene school, we are starting to see patients during our clinic time. Well, we are going to be seeing patients each semester now until I graduate next spring. This means I need your help. I am in charge of creating my schedule and I need a whole lot of patients. Here is the information:

It's $5 and nothing else. The appointment includes x-rays, assessment/cleaning/scaling/polishing/fluoride, and an exam. Exams are only for people who do not see a dentist regularly. Also, if you don't have a regular dentist, you can get work done at the dental clinic. They take all insurances and prices are about half off. Not sure if the half off is only for people without insurance, I don't know.
It's about four hours long and you might need to come back another day to finish. It is a school, so it takes quite a while. I know, annoying.
There is a possibility that I wouldn't be able to finish you. This is if you are classified as a patient that would be too complicated for me at this time. You would be referred to a second year student to be finished.
Here are the times that I need you. Please let me know as soon as possible what you can do.
Please tell everyone you know and all family members included.
Clinic hours/what your appointment time would be, beginning February 3rd:
Tuesdays: 8:00am-11:30am.
Wednesdays 1:00pm-4:30pm.
Thursdays 8:00am-11:30am.
If you come for yourself, please do not bring your little children. I don't know what they would do for four hours. However, I can see children of all ages if you want them to have an appointment. Their appointments would not take up the full four hours. Children scheduled for an appointment that are under the age of 18 need to have their parent/legal guardian with them.

Thanksgiving Table Decoration

The picture didn't turn out that great in the bulletin, so I thought I'd share the original idea from Make and Takes.

How to make a Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Materials:

Brown pot or bowl
Spanish moss or a filling of some sort
3 brown pipe cleaners
popsicle sticks
colored construction paper

Instructions:
Put filling in the pot. Cut construction paper into feather shapes. Glue or tape feathers to popsicle sticks. Stick feathers into pot and place on table!

For Guests:
Place pens or pencils around the table. Have each person write something they are thankful for on the feathers until they are all written on. Place feathers back in the pot. You can take turns reading the feathers, have them read anonymously or have each person read their own feather. So many possibilities!

Sunday's Lesson was from the Joseph Smith manual, #20 “A Heart Full of Love and Faith.” We had a lively and touching discussion about the letters that Joseph sent to Emma during the times he was away from her and their children.

The discussion focused on showing love in the home, specifically through our language and actions. Remembering to say communicate our love for our family members invites the Spirit and bonds us together. We need to remember to do for those closest to us what we do for those outside our home.

We also need to communicate love in ways that are important to our family members. Some feel love through spoken words, some through acts of service, some through physical contact like hugs, and so on. By understanding what means love to others we can support them and show them our love in a meaningful way.

Another thing we learned from Joseph's letters is the importance of service. He was constantly serving others: his wife and family but also outside the home. He had such faith in the work he was doing and gently reminded Emma of his testimony of our Savior. He's an amazing example.

Next Sunday's (11/16/08) lesson is the Ward Missionary Fireside.

How to gain a few pounds...

So my friend Trish gave me this recipe, and I love it, so I thought I would share. It's the EASIEST recipe for Pumpkin Cookies. Yum yum!

1 small can, pumpkin

1 box "Spice Cake" mix (just the powder)

1/2 bag, chocolate chips.

Mix the pumpkin and cake mix. Now add the chocolate. Bake at 350 for 12-15 min on a greased baking sheet, and you're done!!! It's so easy and so delish. Hope you enjoy. Mmmmmmm...
(To add a few more inches, you can DOUBLE the recipe!! Cool, huh?) :)
